Just How Close did They Get?
I was at a house warming party for my sister last night. Our oldest brother, Michael, was there. We were talking about my latest television production: The talKing Show. My brother had been at the taping of the first show, so we were talking about some of the guests from the show and the host: Christine Eads from the XM Radio show Broadminded. I mentioned that I got to see the “Broads” in action last weekend when I had gone to DC.
My brother and I were sharing fond memories of DC: the incredible monuments, the layout of the city, and, of course, and the GIGANTIC Capitol building! I was pleased to share with him about staying at the JW Marriott. The address is 1331 Pennsylvania Ave. You might notice that address is pretty close to the most famous address in America. However, I wasn’t excited because I was staying a couple of blocks away from Georgie. I was excited because of what resides on the corner of 15th and Pennsylvania. No, it’s not a couple of capital hookers. It is the US Treasury Building, and most importantly, a statue of the great Alexander Hamilton. Without digressing too far… Please note that if you ever supported placing Ronald Reagan on the 10 dollar bill, you are going to hell. And if you don’t think it is ironic that racist, murdering, anti-federal bank tyrant, Andrew Jackson is on any form of currency… Well, I should save that for another blog.
Back to the good stuff. I mentioned to my brother that I really enjoyed the Lincoln Memorial. Not only is it an extraordinary building, but the words of Lincoln carved into the right side of the building are brilliant! You need to visit the memorial. All the memorials are amazing. BTW, the Washington Monument does not look like a phallic symbol. It really just looks like a pencil.
So, in the midsts of my older brother and I talking about the Lincoln Memorial, he brings up a very interesting story about his assassination. Something I wasn’t even aware of. Lincoln’s assassination was not just some isolated crazy actor pissed at Lincoln for saying that he was going to give suffrage to former slaves. The Lincoln assassination is actually merely a big part of a plot to actually decapitate the American government.
First, John Wilkes Booth was not some no name actor. He was a well known, accomplished actor from a family of actors. It would be like George Clooney or Harrison Ford killing W. Second, Lincoln was not the only person who was on the hit list. Lincoln, Vice President Johnson, and Secretary of State Seward were all going to get whacked. The assassins were in place. The plans were in place. Even General Grant was going to be assassinated. And folks, they weren’t that far away from pulling it off.
In this day and age, everyone likes to come up with conspiracy theories, like the flaming 20 dollar bill:
But the folks back in the days of Lincoln actually lived it. Kinda helps put some of our ridiculous conspiracies like the 20 dollar bill theory into perspective. What a goofy conspiracy compared to Booth’s devious plans.
